About the Artist

Richard A. Walsh has been an award winning water garden builder for over fifteen years. His artistic desires led him into using artificial stone combined with water to create unusual water features. He soon left the artificial stone behind and expanded his waterfall and pond inspirations. He dabbled with steel sculpture, as the demand for his functional art grew he became a unique steel sculpturist. In the natural progression of things, he opened the RAW Steel Sculpture Showroom located in Highland Park Illinois.

About His Vision

Despite an already impressive existing body of work, Richard continues to strive to redefine steel sculpture with his alchemizing visions. His work reveals the process of evolution, allowing each piece to unfold organically, with a spontaneity of its own.

Each sculpture is an example of how his work progresses. With each new piece, born of previous creations, spawns possibilities for the next. This process enables a better understanding of how forms develop in nature. The ability to incorporate his tools as instruments, such as the use of the welder allows for artistic expression of his inspirations. There are no two identical pieces, therefore each piece is unique to each installation. He has become known for his attention to detail, scale, surface texture and form development.
